Why live in SE Tennessee?
Apart from the hustle and bustle of city life in this place there are families who have lived in Maine and Florida; in California, Texas, Illinois and Minnesota; Missouri to Wyoming who now call Tennessee home. Some call them "halfbacks". They moved to Florida hoping to leave the high costs living and the quality of life where they came from. Later, some moved half way back finding the best place right in the middle of the Southern Charm and hospitality called the Sequatchie Valley. They are the halfbacks - or as we graciously call ourselves, "TN Transplants"
The Sequatchie Valley and river run north south for some 120 miles for just south of Crossville, TN to northern Alabama - south of I-24. The valley floor at 1500 feet below the Cumberland Plateau is cooler by 5-7 degrees in summer and warmer in winter by the same amount. Electrical power is generated by TVA and is some of the least expensive utilities anywhere in the country.
The tax base is also some of the lowest anywhere in the nation. When was the last time your car tag cost $24 a year? In this county there is no ad valorum tax on housing. It's not the value of the house, the tax base is measured by the square footage. And when you retire, your property taxes never increase again.
The Valley is just a few miles north of Chattanooga. You'll find there are many amenities within an hours' drive for things you can do while in the area.
